As I've been saying, My big goal of this year is to understand color theory. It can take an anmature piece of artwork and turn it professional-- just when you use complementary colors instead of darker values and black. Please feel free to use this tutorial; especially you blossoming artists out there: Learn your Color Wheel!!! This is also not limited to digital work, traditional artists better know this stuff too.

NO BLACK WAS USED IN THE COLORING OF THIS!! YOU DON"T NEED BLACK TO SHDE SOMETHING!! --except for when it's REALLY dark.....

About the Tomato-Apple.....It was supposed to be an apple..but it looks kinda like a tomato.

Daily Deviation =savagebinn said that "The Tomato-Apple Color Theory by =Katmomma is an excellent tutorial on color theory that explains the basics of how shading is not just black and white. It really helped me personally and I think it could help a lot of artists." (Suggested by ^savagebinn and Featured by `bleedsopretty)

I use this technique a lot in colored pencils, but I find it harder to do in Photoshop. Thanks for the tutorial, It gave me a few ideas of my own!!!

Looks good. :) My only comment is that the highlight is not always warm, and the shadows don't need to be cool values. It all depends on your light source! Cool light and warm shadows can produce absolutely beautiful finished products. XD
You are absolutely right! It always depends on the light source! --But for beginners...I wanted to keep things simple. Thanks for the feedback! :D

I adore color theory! :D This is incredibly helpful for beginners, I wish I knew this when I first started out. I used to use black and white like crazy in my shadows and highlights.

Fezzik: Why do you wear a mask? Were you burned by acid, or something like that?
Westley:
Oh no. It's just that they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.
